Most electrical panels in Lebanese buildings were installed for a very different set of loads than we run today. Air conditioning, water heaters, EV chargers and a house full of electronics all draw from infrastructure designed decades ago.
1. Breakers trip regularly
An occasional trip is the system doing its job. A breaker that trips every week is telling you the circuit is overloaded or something is failing. Repeatedly resetting it without investigating is how small faults become fires.
2. The panel or faceplate feels warm
A distribution board should never be warm to the touch. Heat means resistance, and resistance at a connection point is one of the most common causes of electrical fires. This warrants immediate attention.
3. You still have rewireable fuses
If your board uses fuse wire rather than breakers, it predates modern safety standards entirely and offers no earth-leakage protection at all.
4. Lights dim when appliances start
A noticeable dip when the air conditioning or a motor starts suggests your supply or board cannot comfortably handle the inrush current.
5. There is no RCD protection
Residual current devices detect earth leakage and disconnect within milliseconds. Without one, a fault to earth through a person is not interrupted. This is the single most important safety upgrade on any older board.
